German translation

ATT Translations offers the services of experienced and professional German translators of various subjects and specialisations. All of our translators are able to produce high-quality, professional translations of standard and non-standard specialist texts in their respective fields of specialisation. It is the job of our technical translation company to bring together and coordinate the different fields of specialisation. The next important task is to supervise the translation process and the subsequent editing of the completed translation, the so-called revision of the translation by an editor.

We have been performing translations of various complexity levels since 2003. Over these years we have been involved in a large number of translation projects, many of them in German. We have done primarily translations from Russian into German, but we have also done other pairs of translations from English into German, from French into German, into English and other languages.

Germany was once the flagship of scientific progress. German was used to shaping scientific thought, discussing inventions and setting up production. Although the English language took precedence in the twists and turns of the 20th century, German inventiveness has never ceased to bring to life things which are indispensable for modern living. Without German automobiles, wind and solar generators, precision machinery and measuring instruments. All this and much more needs to be made clear to the consumer when exporting to foreign countries, in our case Russia and the CIS states. For this purpose, it is necessary to translate many instructions, schemes and drawings from German into Russian. We offer our professional technical translation company for such translations.

We do not always try to employ just any specialist translator, but rather an expert who has extensive experience in the area of his or her specialization. For example, a music specialist is unlikely to be able to translate a charter or a non-disclosure agreement in a proper manner. A builder or a mechanic will be useless in translating an article about a toothache. Apart from knowing the foreign language, in this case, German, you need a good command of a wide range of specialised terminology which will be needed for the project you are tackling. Also, a non-native speaker of German is unlikely to be able to translate well into German, and translation from German is best done by a Russian-speaking translator who can best find the right term or vocabulary to accurately describe the information being translated.

What are the most common orders?

When excluding purely notarial translations of documents, most of the technical orders we receive are in the automotive and agricultural sectors. We often worked with sellers and suppliers of greenhouses and related equipment. Powers of attorney and consent to legal actions between citizens of the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Germany were also frequently translated. A lot of medical translations. You would be surprised how many Russian citizens travel to Germany for treatment and operations. We have been translating diagnoses and recommendations of German doctors for many years to our domestic patients in a renowned clinic in Krasnodar. There have been translations of multilingual instructions from English into German, among other things. A very large number of applicants are heading for studies and further employment in German-speaking countries. With this in mind, the summer is the hot time for translating diplomas, certificates and their inserts into German.

A few facts about the German language

  1. German is the official language of Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein, and it is also spoken as a minority language in several other countries, including Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Italy.
  2. German is a West Germanic language, which means it is part of the same language family as English, Dutch, and several other languages.
  3. The German language has a reputation for being complex and difficult to learn, particularly because of its complex grammar rules and long compound words.
  4. German has a rich literary tradition, with writers such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Thomas Mann among its most famous contributors.
  5. The German language has influenced many other languages around the world, particularly in the areas of science, philosophy, and technology.
  6. German has several dialects, with the most well-known being Bavarian, which is spoken in the southern part of Germany and Austria.
  7. German is the most widely spoken language in the European Union, and it is the third most commonly taught foreign language in the world, after English and French.

Some common difficulties in translating into German

  1. Noun capitalization: In German, all nouns are capitalized, which means that translators need to be mindful of this and ensure that all relevant nouns are capitalized in the target text.
  2. Word order: German has a more rigid word order than English, which can be challenging when trying to convey the intended meaning of the source text while maintaining a grammatically correct sentence structure.
  3. Compound nouns: German is known for its long compound nouns, which can be challenging to translate accurately. These nouns are formed by combining multiple words into a single noun, and they often require careful consideration to determine the correct translation.
  4. Gendered articles: German has three gendered articles (der, die, das), and the gender of a noun determines which article is used. This can be difficult for non-native speakers to master, as the gender of a noun often does not correspond to its gender in English.
  5. False cognates: German and English share many cognates, but some words that look similar in both languages have different meanings. Translators need to be aware of these false cognates and ensure they are using the correct translation based on context.
  6. Idiomatic expressions: German has many idiomatic expressions that do not translate directly into English. Translators need to be familiar with these expressions and be able to find appropriate equivalents in the target language to convey the intended meaning accurately.

  2. Armen says:

I have a bilingual document, fully dubbed German and English? Which language is better to translate into Italian, how much cheaper?

    • ATT says:

The cost is the same, but it is always better to translate from the official language of the country that issued the document. In your case, I understand that the document was issued in Germany, so it is better to translate it from German.
